What is a financial health score, and why should you care?
A financial health score turns your cash flow, savings, debt, and safety net into one easy number. Here's how it works and what to do with yours.
Most people can tell you how much they weigh, what their resting heart rate is, and maybe even their cholesterol — but ask them about their financial health and the conversation gets vague fast. "I think I'm doing okay." "My credit score is 720, so... fine?"
Your credit score measures how well you borrow. Your financial health score measures how well you live.
The four vitals
At WealthVitals.io we boil financial health down to four numbers everyone should know, the same way a doctor watches four vitals:
- Cash flow — does more money come in than goes out each month?
- Savings rate — how much of your income are you actually keeping?
- Debt-to-income (DTI) — how much of your paycheck is already spoken for by lenders?
- Safety net — how many months of expenses could you cover if income stopped tomorrow?
Each vital gets weighted, blended with goal progress and weekly engagement, and rolled into a single 0–100 health score.
What the number actually means
| Range | Status | What it usually means |
|---|---|---|
| 80–100 | Thriving | Strong cash flow, healthy safety net, debt under control. |
| 60–79 | On Track | A solid base — a few habits away from thriving. |
| 40–59 | Improving | The plumbing works, but you're a bad month away from stress. |
| 0–39 | At Risk | Cash flow or debt is choking out progress; time to triage. |
The point of the score isn't bragging rights. It's a leading indicator — small habits move it before your net worth does. Watching your score rise from 52 to 68 is what tells you the new budget is actually working, six months before the numbers in your accounts catch up.
Why a single number, not a dashboard of twelve charts?
Because nobody changes behavior from a dashboard of twelve charts.
The brain processes a single number the way it processes a bathroom scale: up = bad, down = good, or in this case, up = good. That single feedback signal is what makes weekly habits stick.
What to do this week
If you haven't checked your score yet, start your check-up — it takes about three minutes and you'll see your four vitals immediately. From there, your coach (or our AI assistant between sessions) will give you exactly one habit to focus on this week. Not five. One.
Money wellness isn't built in a weekend. It's built in the small, repeated choices that nudge each vital in the right direction — and a score is the easiest way to know it's working.
